Brooklyn, New York – Trinidad and Tobago’s Queen of Steam, Keisha’ Lady Lava’ Harris, has received official recognition from New York City Council Member Rita Joseph. On August 26 at Kimoto Rooftop Restaurant & Garden Lounge, downtown Brooklyn, Councilwoman Joseph presented Lady Lava with a Proclamation during the Caribbean Music Awards’ VIP Reception in celebration of her cultural impact and groundbreaking contributions to music. Referring to Lava as “a trailblazer whose sound is as authentic as it is electrifying,” Joseph noted the artiste’s steady rise and the support she has received from international icons such as Cardi B and Vybz Kartel.

In her acceptance speech, Lady Lava expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Caribbean Music Awards and Councilwoman Joseph for the recognition, citing the honour as a source of motivation. Lava is never shy when discussing her past and growth, she shared, “I used to be selling water, cigarettes, ice cream and clothes in the streets of Chaguanas where I am from and that’s where lot of people from home know me from and to know that I was in Barclays Centre this weekend, that is a level up from where I was and I hope it is inspiration for other people who are doing something and are not where they want to be at the moment.” She also took to social media to express her gratitude: “To be rewarded for my musical contributions is heartwarming. Thank you to New York City Council Member Rita Joseph for this PROCLAMATION for my work through music.”
With her fearless artistry, undeniable charisma, and global co-signs, Lady Lava is quickly emerging as one of the most exciting female voices in dancehall today. This recognition not only highlights her personal achievements but also signals her growing role in shaping the future of the genre and the sounds emerging from Trinidad and Tobago on the international stage.
