St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands — [November 13 2025] — US Virgin Islander and Soca artiste Dennis “Pumpa” Liburd is set to be officially honoured by The Legislature of the Virgin Islands for his outstanding contributions to music, culture and the global recognition of the Virgin Islands. Through Act No. 9048 (Bill No. 36-0058), passed on October 30, 2025, Pumpa will receive an Official Key to the Territory and the main entrance of 6-Y Peters Rest Road in Christiansted, St. Croix, will be renamed “Dennis ‘Pumpa’ Liburd Drive” in his honour.

Born in Cayon, St. Kitts and raised in Christiansted, St. Croix, Pumpa’s journey embodies Virgin Islands pride. Music became his life’s calling early on, earning him the nickname “Pumpa” for his boundless energy. From fronting the legendary Xtaushun Band to building a successful solo career, Pumpa has consistently carried the Virgin Islands flag across the Caribbean and the world.
Proof that Pumpa’s influence extends far beyond his homeland can be seen in his international breakout single “A-List” which became a regional anthem, amassing millions of streams and solidifying his place among soca’s elite. In 2024, he was also awarded the Impact Award at the Caribbean Music Awards in Brooklyn for his contribution to Caribbean culture and his role in shaping the region’s evolving sound. Then, for the 2025 Trinidad Carnival, Pumpa collaborated with soca icon Machel Montano on the hit track “Her Mudda,” marking a defining cultural moment for the Virgin Islands and the wider soca fraternity. To date, Pumpa remains the first solo soca artiste from the Virgin Islands to win a Road March title. This milestone paved the way for the next generation of VI talent.
The legislation recognizes Pumpa’s role as a cultural ambassador symbolizing his lasting impact. As Pumpa reflects on this moment, he says, “For years I’ve poured my heart into the music while representing the Virgin Islands on every stage I touch. To be honoured in the place that shaped my sound and spirit is beyond words. This recognition isn’t just mine; it belongs to every artiste, every fan, and every dreamer who believes our small islands can make a global impact. I’m grateful, I’m inspired, and I’m just getting started.
An official ceremony is carded to take place soon and more details will be shared when available.
